From the American Bar Association (ABA) Journal sent by my alert lawyer friend:
In what one expert says is a rising trend, a woman lawyer has sued her law firm for sexual discrimination, alleging, among other things, that she was told she needed to spend less time at work and more time with her family.
Spare me the petty drama. I’m no law expert, but it seems to me from reading this article that what she’s got is really a garden-variety sexual discrimination case…whose offenses have more to do with being a woman than a mother. Focus on the real issues, please. The rest of us payroll moms have worked far too hard to earn our employers’ respect for a healthy work/life balance to waste our time complaining when they encourage us to achieve it.
The best part of the ABA article is at the end, when you find out that she’s not only still employed by the law firm she’s suing, but also wants to continue to work there after the suit is finished.
Yeah, let me know how that goes. Just because a judge and jury tell your office they have to respect you doesn’t mean your name won’t get dragged through the mud behind closed doors.
But…I guess you can always sue for dry cleaning.
